• Elevate the car: because you will need to get under the hood of your car, the first step will be to wear gloves and lift the front end of your car using a set of ramps or jacks. Ensure the car is stable and secure and will remain stationary as you change your engine oil.
• Remove the undertray: if you find a plastic undertray underneath your Subaru, remove it using a screwdriver or wrench. If you notice any oil leaks after removing the undertray, take your car to the nearest Subaru dealership immediately.
• Drain the Old Oil: place a container (at least five-gallon capacity) underneath your car's drain plug and slowly loosen it with a wrench. Be careful to keep the drain plug and allow the oil to drain into the container for at least five minutes.
• Remove and Replace the Filter: Depending on your model, the oil filter is located right next to your car's crankcase. Please refer to your user manual to confirm where it is located in your car. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen it until the oil starts to drop. Allow the oil to finish dropping before you unscrew completely. Remove the old gasket, apply oil to the new gasket and screw the new oil filter to replace the old one. Do not use the wrench so the oil filter will be tight enough.
• Replace the undertray and lower the car: after screwing the new filter, tighten the drain cap under the hood, replace the undertray using your screwdriver like before and lower your car back down.
• Refill the Engine with new oil: unscrew the oil cap in the hood of your car, place a funnel at the opening and pour the exact type and volume of oil specified in your user manual. After allowing it to sit for a few minutes, use the dipstick to confirm that the oil is at the right level and turn on your car to run on idle for a while.
