As part of Subaru’s commitment to sustainability through the Subaru Loves the Earth initiative, Empire Subaru proudly hosted a Tree Distribution Event this April to celebrate Earth Day and give back to our local community in a lasting, meaningful way. In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, we distributed over 100 tree saplings to customers, employees, and local families. From bald cyprus' to red maples, each tree was selected with our local climate in mind and came with easy planting instructions to ensure they thrive in their new homes. The excitement and gratitude from our visitors was inspiring—many shared that this would be their first time planting a tree with their children or grandchildren. It was more than just giving away trees; it was about planting roots—literally and symbolically—that will benefit our environment for generations to come. At Empire Subaru, we’re proud to be part of a brand that not only talks about loving the Earth, but takes real, measurable steps to make a difference. Together with our community, we’re growing a greener future—one tree at a time.

Melissa & Buster the underdog Executive Director Pioneers for Animals Welfare Society, Inc. - MELISSA E.
Buster was on the kill list of a local shelter. He was 4 years old. They said he was aggressive- they could not handle him- he growled and barked and could only be walked on a rabies pole. If a rescue did not step up in a few days, he was set to be euthanized. We read his story- his notes; as always, we saw something in him that others did not see. We did not see aggression: he just needed understanding and the proper environment. Animals are not round pegs which fit into round holes; they are each individual living, breathing souls who require patience, love, understanding and sometimes, a little extra knowledge and understanding. We pulled him from the shelter and sent him straight to our behaviorist. Within the week, she saw his behaviors- he became very vocal and fixated on his water bowl, his gate, his kennel, his lock on his kennel…all silver, shiny things. She informed us that our Buster has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder , or OCD. Yes, dogs do get OCD and it can be similar to that in humans. This is a neurological condition. He is not aggressive, he instead is afraid of certain items and fixates on them and his response is irrational. Excessive barking, staring and at times latching on to things. He needed help controlling his environment which means, no more silver shiny things near him and he needs a steady, consistent routine. He is being treated with medicine to help alleviate some of his mannerisms but it is a combination of medicine and proper care. He is doing well- he loves life, he loves to play with his toys. especially his tennis balls or any type of ball. He loves hikes, and car rides. He loves to crawl and hide in small places. His condition requires management with people who understand his condition, know how to help him once he begins to fixate and to let him know he is safe. He is not aggressive; he just needs a little extra help with his neurological condition. Our Buster is an underdog; you cannot tell by looking at him. He cannot explain it; rather he lives with it and thankfully with people who have the knowledge, understanding and love to care for him and to keep him safe. Thank you Subaru for understanding that the underdogs need help; and sometimes this help requires extra funds as there are so many animals in need, it can be challenging financially to help those with special needs due to financial constraints. We cannot do it without people like those at Subaru who understand this. We and Buster Thank you. Pioneers for Animals Welfare Society, Inc.
Help for a Family on Verge of Homelessness - Valerie R.
In the summer of 2022, a local family in crisis came to St. Anthony of Padua Church in East Northport for help to find shelter. Due to difficult relations with a landlord, the family was losing its rental space. At one point, the father spent two nights in a car while his wife and their two young children found shelter elsewhere. Volunteers with the St. Anthony of Padua Parish Outreach office were able to calm the family's fears and help them find a new apartment. In addition, Parish Outreach -- with generous help from Empire Subaru of Huntington and the Subaru Share the Love program -- was able to provide a check to fund the security deposit for the new family. Our volunteers also referred the family to county social services to determine their eligibility for other public support. This is one example of how our Parish Outreach office serves our community. From January through August 2022, our office has responded to 2,788 requests from local residents, regardless of religious or other beliefs, for help or referrals for problems involving unemployment, mortgage and rental payments, utility bills, car repairs, car insurance and medication. We provided bus passes and gift cards for fresh food and clothing. Our volunteers conduct bereavement seminars for people who have lost loved ones, as well as vaccine clinics. We have hosted talks on smart financial planning for retirees and how residents can avoid criminal scams. Subaru’s support also helps us to continue our free transportation to the elderly and disabled in our community, providing them with independence and dignity. This vital service transports clients to our parish food pantry, doctor appointments, physical therapy, food shopping and more. Subaru’s support helps us to pay for our van gas bills, wheelchair lift and van repair. Thank you, Subaru, for your compassion, kindness and generosity to those in need in our community! You live the meaning of "Share the Love"! Valerie Raineri, acting coordinator St. Anthony of Padua Parish.
